the quota can

The women's reservation Bill has opened yet another can of quota worms. Makes a woman feel so dependent on the crumbs of male psycology to become independent and '"empowered"'" --whatever that means.
Going by these yardsticks the entire world would be cut up into reservation pieces and devoured by some community or the other. What surprises me is that nobody talks about a compulsory quota for women or the SC/ST/OBC/MBC in primary education. Actually the government does not really have any schools for the general category, forget the reserved ones.
Parliament seats are bequeathed to us free so let us cut them up.

  1. Perhaps, Indian women don't really deserve to be so confident. When we talk about India we must remember that we are but one the poorest countries in the world in terms of Human Development Indicators. When it comes to Gender indicators then our performance is sometimes even poorer than some African countries. The sex ratio is very adverse and the instances of female foeticide is very high in even urban so called educated families.

In the Election of 2009 Women occupied about 59 seats in Lok Sabha which is just 10.8% of the seats. This is far lower than Sweden's 46.4%. Infact it is shameful that even countries like Burkina Faso, Burundi and Tunisia are doing better than us. Apart from reservation no other means can give decision making rights to women. reservation for women at the Panchayat level has proved very successful. Therefore, I believe urban educated women should stop bragging about an equality which only a miniscule proportion of the female population enjoys. I really don't agree that reservation "Makes a woman feel so dependent on the crumbs of male psycology to become independent and '"empowered"'" WE AIN"T THERE YET.
